Did you douse your French toast in syrup? As always, very vivid pictures created by your words, dear Susie.

The French toast comes already dense with sweetness.

This is one of the best things you've written. It really immerses you in what it felt like to be there, wrestling with the contradictions. The guy in the pink shirt is straight out of White Lotus.

I knew I'd seen him before! White Lotus, for sure. I only scratched the surface of the subject. Traveling when old opens up all kinds of new material.

Love this, Susie. "I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the end of the earth." Me too, lovely, me too. I honeymooned in Cabo back when it was sleepier, less gringofied. And I know that feeling of needing to get warm in your bones. Mexico will do that for you. I also love this, "I want to feel healthy, I want to feel cared for. I want a respite from the bloodletting all over the world. It doesn’t come free and it doesn’t come clean." It's so hard to do just about anything these days without keeping in mind the rest of the word. And yet. We must also take care of ourselves. And oftentimes there is a cost to that. Thank you for your frankness. xo

It feels like a spiritual practice.....caring for oneself while not turning away from the grief. It's not an either/or thing. It's a both/and thing.

Yes yes yes! That's exactly it, Susie. It IS a spiritual practice. Thank you for saying so. I think that's what I've been trying to say, to pinpoint in my own writing. That it's something we must choose and come back to over and over again. And it IS a both/and thing. 🙏

wonderful, as always. You cover the waterfront so to speak. YOu want it, you need it, you love it, but it does not come clean.

In the end, Judith, there is nothing more precious than being understood.

I loved this: The only thing they don’t know about me - and this is their Achilles’ heel -  is that you can’t sell me anything because there’s nothing I want to buy except quiet and warm weather.

I enjoyed your piece! I wish you a wonderful break in the warmth.

Thanks, Alice. We're back north now but the weather seems to be inching towards spring. Cabo was an amazing environment...desert and seashore.

This is such an impressive description. I don’t know how you came up with it so quickly but you have a gift for that. Our trip was planned by a travel agent who relied on a travel agent with a specialty for Central/Latin American trips. We are finishing up part 2 and unfortunately can hardly wait to move on to part 3. (Part 1 was perfect!)

Now you've got me really curious about the three parts...?

I will share more about this when part 2 ends and may wait till we get home.
