You find such touching and original ways to express the universal. "Shopping in the supermarket of spirit." And your story unfolds so beautifully. Your grandson is like you, carrying on the quest....and it's beautiful that you can share it.
I loved reading of your meeting with Jonah, and of your reflections on some of what is available in the supermarket of spirit. One of my friends is a great activist in conflict management and Israeli/Palestinian dialogue. I asked her how she is managing these days. She said by practicing even more lovingkindness than usual.
Great piece. I assume I won’t live long enough to have a conversation about anything with my 2yr old grandson, so I felt a prick of unholy envy reading this. And yes, I agree: We all want refuge.
People are reluctant to talk about these issues. I was grateful that I was able to reach out to my grandson. All that spiritual direction training paid off.
Susie, you and Jonah are a gift to, and for, each other. Never underestimate how important your relationship is to him.
Thank you, MK. I feel so blessed that I can see him in Minnesota with some regularity. We have a lot to teach each other.

You can't plan those encounters, but when they happen it's kind of spectacular.

It was the best spiritual direction I've ever been privileged to be present for. And the setting in Matt's Bar was priceless. I'll never forget it.

I'm so glad your grandson came to meet you in these unholy times.
People who advocate for peace are insulted and vilified. These are strange times
Agreed. Thank you, Richard. I was a little squeamish about this post but I know in my heart I needed to write it.
Let it all hang out. My favorite hippy-era phrase : )
The grandson is like his grandmother. Open. And how amazing you have this beautiful relationship.
Thank you. I am so grateful.
This strikes a number of chords in my family.
