Lives and skin shriveled like spinach - one of your very best similes! You were fortunate to have a grandmother to hug you! Thanks for honoring grandmothers, ours and us. 💚🇮🇱🎗️
You could hear her running from the other end of the apartment. When I told my son I was writing. about being a grandmother, he said "well you're very good at it." So good.
Heart warming and heart wrenching. The hugs my grandchildren are magical. The sadness comes when your arms no longer enfold your grandchildren because they have grown so tall their arms enfold you, as they stretch their wings, readying to leave the second nest where have lovingly protected and shaped them. ❤️
Only after living in the Boulevard (Bway betw 86th & 87th), built circa 1988, did I learn that what we now call Broadway on the UWS was once known as The Boulevard

I didn't feel a whole lot of embrace from my grandmother but I'm thrilled to have been given the opportunity to inhabit that role.
Lovely and perceptive,Susie.
Wings on her arms as she ran to answer the door were/are the ancestors of the hugs you share with your own grands now.

an exquisite tribute. Most certainly disputes your claim of tired writing. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you, Judith. I didn't have any grandfathers so the focus was very concentrated.

Then we're called to a greater love just as we were with our children. It keeps happening, doesn't it?

Beautiful and sad. I always look forward to your writing.
Thank you, Alice. I like the Portuguese word saudade.....a sweet melancholy.
