I'll tell you what causes me a twinge of alarm: that I don't pay any attention to social media! I suppose it's just another form of FOMO, and it strikes me from time to time, but it's the price I've decided to pay for minimizing what seems extraneous input into my overcrowded consciousness. Me, I like email and the phone! (Are those social media? Is this post? Oh, dear. )

I'd say making that conscious decision is the opposite of FOMO. It turns out that there's finite square footage in there and it's entirely possible to overcrowd one's brain.

Sure, it's good to make conscious decisions -- but when you consciously choose something "out," therein lies the FOMO: I'm choosing something "out" that so many others I respect are choosing "in" -- what of value might I be missing?

I wonder what you're doing instead....contemplating, cooking, making art, being a fighter, a lover.

I wonder too, Susie. I'll get back to you on that.

Thank you, Patty. I invited Carol Sill, another Substack writer, to post on my site this week...so these are her words. I wonder what concerns you might have about social media.

Oh yes, I see that now. Hmmmm………hers is a hard act to follow. I will think about it. I certainly have concerns but have been grateful mostly for facebook because I have reconnected with so many important people from my past who have always been in my heart and mind…..
